What to Know Before You Move.
- Location – along with the 16 beach communities that you may be familiar with as a vacationer, there are many other great areas to put down your roots including Point Washington, Watersound Origins and North Santa Rosa Beach. Depending on your individual situation, you may prefer to live in a community with no vacation rentals allowed, that has families with children or that offers private amenities such as golf or tennis. - Schools – The Walton County School District is ranked among the top performing districts in the state of Florida and has maintained the State Board of Education’s Academically High Performing School District designation for seven consecutive years. There are two elementary schools, Van R. Butler and Dune Lakes, Emerald Coast Middle School and South Walton High School for students located south of the bay. In addition, there are two public charter schools, Seaside Neighborhood School for grades 5-8 and Seacoast Collegiate High School for grades 9-12. High school students are also eligible for dual enrollment with the Northwest Florida State College to earn high school and college credits simultaneously.
- Culture – discover a dynamic and flourishing arts community with countless art galleries, artist studios, live music venues and local festivals. The Cultural Arts Alliance supports local arts through leadership, advocacy, funding, programs, and education including hosting signature annual events such as the 30A Songwriters, ArtsQuest and Flutterby Arts Festival. There are several local churches of varied denominations along with volunteer and non-profit organizations catered to specific special interests and missions.
- Recreation – There is so much more to discover about South Walton beyond the beach with 40 percent of area land preserved for nature including five county or state parks and 15,000 acres of state forest.
